Overnight leader Sharon White and her 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding Claus 63 (Catoo x Tina II) could afford one rail down in the show jumping phase, but they jumped around clear and in the time to secure the win in the Advanced division at the 2023 Millbrook Horse Trials on a score of 36.2. White also finished fourth in spite of one rail down riding the 9-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Shirsheen Ice (Candy Copper x Regal Sting xx) that she co-owns with Kathleen Neuhoff.

The Millbrook Horse Trials, held July 27-30 in Dutchess County, New York, wrapped up the first two days of competition today, with the upper levels taking to the dressage phase at Riga Meadow at Coole Park Farm, and the lower levels heading out on the cross-country course across the road.

Like many other parts of American history, the ideas and people behind the sport of eventing in the United States came out of the states that now represent the United States Eventing Association’s (USEA) Area I. Just like how Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont have been the birthplace of great American leaders and ideas, these states were where eventing earned its stars and stripes.
With great regret, the Board of Millbrook Horse Trials (“MHT”) announces the cancellation of this year’s event, which was scheduled to be held August 4-7 in Millbrook, N.Y. This will be a disappointment to many, especially in our own community of Millbrook. As the only Area I eventing competition that offers all levels, from local beginners to the very top international competitors, MHT is an important summer fixture for competitors and spectators.

The Millbrook Horse Trials are held once a year on the first weekend in August in Millbrook, New York (Area I) and offer Beginner Novice through Advanced level horse trials for their approximately 450 starters.
Millbrook, New York experienced both ends of the weather spectrum from powerful thunderstorms all the way to 90 degrees and sunny and everything in between last weekend during the 2018 Millbrook Horse Trials at Coole Park Farm.
After a whirlwind day of competition at the Millbrook Horse Trials, Emily Beshear and Olney Uncle Sam (Sonset Seiger x Aerial) emerged victorious, jumping one of the morning’s 11 double clear show jumping rounds and adding just a single cross-country time fault to their dressage score to take home the win in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced division.
Due to heavy rainfall over the last several days in Millbrook, N.Y., Intermediate and Advanced cross-country will be run on Sunday, August 5.
